Verse 13: “Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died. So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil.” Now, Paul moves back to discussing what he was originally discussing at the beginning of this chapter, and that pertains to Christian liberty. Paul says that he believes even though he’s a Jew, he’s allowed to eat anything he desires, and he is no longer bound by the Old Testament dietary restrictions in order to be clean before God. Nevertheless, he points out the fact that if a Jew still believes he shouldn’t eat this or that, if he is weak, and he hasn’t gained knowledge and freedom in this area, that that person should not go against his conscience and eat what he thinks is forbidden.
