Simply put, the Holy Spirit leads us by giving us peace with whatever we are doing. If we are familiar with the Word of God, we understand how God thinks and what he expects from us. As Paul told the Colossian believers, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” (3:15, ESV). So, the Spirit will lead us by his peace. That means we will do certain things, and not do other things. If we don’t have peace about something, we won’t do it. Certainly, we won’t have peace about following what we clearly know is sin. And if we not sure what God desires from us in a certain situation, he will lead us by his peace. If we have peace about doing whatever it is, we understand that it is okay for us to do that. However, if we have a lack of peace, we realize God is not leading us in that direction. This means we’re not going to get everything we want in life at the time we want it. It means certain times are going to come when have to pass on something.
