“For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Romans 8:14, ESV). How are we led, as believers, by the Spirit of God? How does this work? Personally, I have recognized two types of Christians in this area. There are the Christians who believe that the leading of the Spirit of God simply means to follow the what the Bible says without any internal input, without any internal discretion. And then there are those Christians who certainly follow the Word of God, but they do so with the Spirit’s internal leading, focusing on the areas he wants them to and following Christ in a certain, individual, personalized way where the Spirit of God leads. Instead of it just being following the Bible, it’s following the Spirit through the Bible. That’s the main difference I have noticed. And, of course, obviously we are to truly model the second approach here. This is how God operates. Simply put, the Holy Spirit leads us by giving us peace with whatever we are doing.
